will be made. Along with a very LIMITED EDITION Special Chromalusion Painted Chase Cars & 6 GOLD Plated

this official commemorative collectible for the 2006 National conventions of the GTO Association of
America (GTOAA) and the Pontiac-Oakland Club International (POCI).
The 1965 GTO continued to be an option on the Pontiac LeMans platform. Several cosmetic changes were made from the 1964 GTO. Here is a list of some of the modifications: the headlights were now stacked vertically, the twin front grilles were now recessed into the body to give it more of an aggressive look, a new “V” shaped center hood scoop that could be made functional, and the tail lights now wrapped around the rear quarter panels for more visibility. Some slight changes were made to the interior with a new seat pattern & instrument panel changes.
Total production for the 1965 GTO more than doubled from the 1964 year with 75,352 GTOs rolling down the assembly line. You had your choice of three different body styles to choose from, of which 55,722 were the more popular two door hardtops with only 8,319 two door post coupes and followed with 11,311 two door sporty convertibles. Base price for the GTO coupe was $2787.00, the hardtop was $2852.00 and the convertible would set you back $3093.00. Much of this huge success had to do with the aggressive advertising campaign launched to promote the GTO.
Two engine options were available for the GTO, the 335 H.P. 389 with a single Carter four barrel carburetor or the 389 Tri-Power cranking out 360 horses. Transmission options included the base Hurst shifted 3 speed manual or you could opt for the Hurst shifted 4 speed manual or the 2 speed Power Glide automatic. Rear axel options included everything from the fuel miser 3.08 gears all the way up to a set of 3.90 cogs. And to save on rear tire cost, you definitely wanted to check the option box for the Safe-T-Track rear axel.
Car Life Magazine did a feature on the 1965 GTO in their May 1965 issue. Their test car was a slightly tweaked 389 Tri-Power, 4 speed. The li’l GTOs best times of the day were recorded as follows: 0 to 60 mph was 5.8 seconds, and the standing quarter mile time was 14.5 seconds at 100 MPH!
Our 1965 Hurst Edition GTO will again come with a full size reproduction window sticker with your own matching VIN number from last years GTO. Please call or email soon if you would like to continue your matching serial number.
