There have been many stories written about the mysterious yellow '70 Challenger R/T with the "TAN" interior..!

Sorry for the long read, but the history of this car goes back almost 20 YEARS.

The FIRST error Challenger was released in 2006, China got it wrong with making the entire interior such as the dash, rear package tray, console, door panels, rear inner qtr. panels, sun visors, headliner, even the carpet & floor mats YELLOW. The only items that were the correct TAN was the bucket seats & rear seat.

These cars were released as an assortment of 3 Challengers, stock #50655, #50656 and #50657 (2 of each in a carton). Each Challenger was also available in a solid case of 6 cars stock #60154. It is believed that the solid cases of the error cars were destroyed, the 2 error cars of the assortment cases were over time shuffled to a back corner of the Hwy. 61 warehouse. Hwy. 61 could not release this car as is, so requested China to re-do the run of Challengers.

The next run of Challengers were not scheduled until 2008, China once again attempted to run the infamous yellow Challenger only to get it wrong...AGAIN. This time painting the center console yellow.

The powers that be at Hwy. 61 decided two strikes was enough & cancelled any further production attempts of the doomed #50655 Yellow Challenger.

It is rumored that 42 cars were shipped from China to a Hwy. 61/ Diecast Promotions European distributor. These were distributed to a couple of diecast dealers in Europe. The same scenario applies to the 2008 release as far as the European Connection and assortment packing.

I am sure many of you collectors have heard of these Error Challengers changing hands on the secondary market (ebay, etc.) in the many hundreds of dollars..! ($$$) Now you can own a True Unicorn LIMITED EDITION Challenger R/T for a very reasonable price..!

We at PYE purchased all remaining 1/18th inventory some years back from Hwy. 61, this included all cars in the warehouse, all Sample Cars & all Display Cars that was used by Hwy. 61 at trade shows and in their showroom. We were pleasantly surprised to have found some of the 2006 & 2008 Challengers mixed in on one of the pallets of cars we bought.

*** We even found a "Unicorn of a Unicorn"...I don't know if this was a Hwy. 61 SAMPLE CAR or another China mistake...this ONE car has NO BLACK VINYL TOP..! It was mixed in a box with the other Challengers.

PYE did a few specialty Challengers with the V21 "DODGE" hood graphic AND the V21 "R/T" hood graphic for the J54 Power Dome Sport Hood.

These cars come with a "PYE" "CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY" and a "Limited Edition" "PYE" decal on front of box..!

I asked Clark at Backyard Conversions if he could correct the 2008 Challengers with the yellow console, he of course said yes. So I sent some cars to Clark. He disassembled the cars, and painted the console the correct color tan.

I then thought how cool to have some CONVERTIBLES made of these cars.

Clark at BYC made 18 Convertibles with the V6X Longitudinal Stripes.

He also made 6 Convertibles that we at PYE removed the V6X side stripes & applied a V21 R/T Hood Stripe..!

These cars come with a "BYC" "Certificate of Authenticity"

*** THIS RUN OF CARS WAS THE VERY LAST CARS THAT CLARK AT "THE ORIGINAL" BACKYARD CONVERSIONS PRODUCED and they were for us at PYE..!

Painted in the CORRECT Y2 Yellow & CORRECT H6T5 Tan Interior. 440-Six Pack, pistol grip 4-speed, J54 Power Dome hood, rallye gauge cluster, wood steering wheel, sliding & tilting bucket seats, carpet, seat belts, opening glove box, poseable sun visors, trunk mat, jack, space saver spare tire, dual chrome sport mirrors, dual exhaust with chrome splitter exhaust tips, Rallye wheels and Goodyear white letter tires.

Opening hood, doors & trunk all with correct style hinges, steerable front wheels, working suspension, wired & plumbed engine compartment, rotating drive shaft with rear wheels.
