FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Austin, MN
- 6/29/2004 - We would like to bring you up to date with the 1968 Dick Landy
Dart project with Hwy. 61.
The cars were received at Hwy 61 warehouse on 06-24-04. Upon an initial
inspection it was noticed that the last few corrections that we had asked for,
however minor had not been done. Tom Haverland then went to the warehouse on
6-25-04 and did his own random inspection of some of the cars. It was then that
Tom noticed a quality concern with some of the cars; it was to a point that he
felt it was unacceptable. Tom knows that the Dick Landy Dart is a sold out
project and was afraid that with this many questionable cars we might not be
able to fulfill all of our orders.
With that in mind Tom contacted the factory to see what could be done. Tom
thought it best to re-run the cars but wanted to get a schedule. Tom then
called me with the bad news. He explained the options and I had to agree with
him that it would be best to re-do the cars correctly, after all, the box has
both our names on it and we want the collector to be proud of a Performance
Years / Hwy. 61 car. Tom asked us not to announce this until today so he could
get a handle on the factory’s project schedule.
Tom said that the factory will fast track the project and with production &
ship time we should see the cars by late Aug.
We would like to apologize to all of our customers and dealers for this added
delay. We went into this project January 2003 and it has been a long
undertaking. I must applaud Tom for taking this action. I know from experience
that not many other companies would show this type of concern. I would also
like to thank Tom for his patience with us when we ask for the smallest of
details and 9 times out of 10 he makes it happen. We are both "car guys" and we
know how it should be & strive to make it correct.
Now I am sure you are wondering what will be done with the Landy Darts. Tom has
contacted the local landfill and will schedule a time that the cars can be
brought out & will be immediately destroyed while the Hwy 61 guys oversee.
Again I apologize and ask you all to just hang with us for a little while
longer, I am sure it will be worth the wait. Photos of the final prototype Dart
& packaging are on our web site if you would like to check them out.
